UAHA was founded in 1982 to promote academic excellence among Hispanic students at the university, provide financial and mentoring support to qualified and deserving students, and develop linkages with alumni and supporters in the professional and business community.

Since 1986, UAHA has awarded 1,368 scholarships worth $3,084,944!

Here are just a few of the things UAHA takes on: student mentoring program, student/faculty mixer, receptions for scholarship recipients and parents, Homecoming Pachanga, newsletters (Noticias), Annual Bishop's Scholarship Dinner, partnerships with community groups, and fund-raising for mariachi and folklorico groups.

University Support

The UAHA, one of the most active clubs in the Alumni Association's organizational structure, receives administrative and logistical support from the Arizona Alumni Association. Lines of communications and cooperation are well established between the UAHA and the President's Office, Student Financial Aid, the Hispanic-Chicano Resource Center, and the UA Foundation. The UAHA also works closely with relevant staff offices, program directors, and student organizations that share interests and concern.

Corporate Support

The UAHA recognizes the importance of support from corporations, businesses, and foundations. By virtue of those relationships, the UAHA now enjoys the largest scholarship endowment of its kind among all public universities.

Individual Support

The success of the Hispanic Alumni can be traced directly to individuals. Individuals who become members, volunteer time, share ideas, participate, and donate their money. Support for the UAHA comes from alumni and friends throughout the world.

Community Involvement

Hispanic Alumni members and associate members are visibly involved in communities throughout the country. Members serve on governing bodies and advisory boards, hold public office, and volunteer for civic causes. We are most proud, however, of members and friends who volunteer their time with students as advisors or mentors.

The UAHA has accomplished much since 1982, but the future holds new major obstacles, including changing demographics, escalating costs for education, and rising community expectations.

Membership

Regular Membership

All former students who received a degree or completed 30 units of credit or more at the UA are eligible for membership.

Associate Membership

Any person who is not a former student of the UA, or who has not completed more than 29 units at the university, may become an associate member with all privileges except those of voting and serving on the executive committee.
