PROPOSITION 100 IMPACTS
The outcome of the May 18th special election on Proposition 100 will impact
education, public safety and healthcare for Arizona’s citizens. Funding for Arizona’s Universities will indirectly be significantly impacted.
- A YES vote will raise Arizona’s sales tax 1 cent for 3 years, when economic recovery is expected.
- It will raise approximately $950 M each year, helping to offset the current $2.6 B shortfall.
- It will support K-12 education, health and human services and public safety, thereby reducing the need for additional cuts across other state entities.
- It will prevent deeper cuts to Arizona’s universities -- $ 42 M to UA alone.
- It will save 13,000 jobs statewide.
- A NO vote will not increase Arizona’s sales tax this year.
- A minimum of $107 M will be cut from the University System this year alone, to help offset the current $2.6 B shortfall (bringing cuts to UA alone to $142 M).
- UA will be forced to cut 500 jobs, impose furloughs and cut financial aid to students, thereby diminishing the quality of education the UA offers and lessening the value of its degree.
- Additional cuts to state entities are likely to occur until the economy recovers.
Consider the options.
