Beginning in St. Petersburg, marvel at the Hermitage Museum (your visit occurs before it opens to the public). Visit the palaces of Peter the Great and Catherine the Great. Cruise the Neva and Svir Rivers and Lakes Ladoga and Onega. Stop in Mandrogi, and tour Kizhi Island on Lake Onega. The 18th-century onion-shaped domes of its churches were constructed shingle by shingle, without the use of nails. The Church of the Transformation, with its 22 domes, is considered one of Russia’s most architecturally splendid churches. Arrive at Goritsy, then enjoy beautiful Yaroslavl and a visit to the 16th-century Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior. Sail the Volga River from Uglich to Moscow. Next, explore the Tretyakov Gallery and the Kremlin’s Armory Museum. Visit Red Square and see iconic St. Basil’s Cathedral. In Star City, home to Russia’s space program, enjoy a talk with a cosmonaut and an exclusive tour of the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center.
