Immerse yourself in the cultural and scenic treasures of Europe’s heartland on this unique cruise and rail itinerary that traces the Rhine River from the North Sea to the Swiss Alps. Board the deluxe M.S. Amadeus Symphony in Amsterdam and travel upstream for five nights through Holland, Germany, and France. Visit Gothic cathedrals, medieval castles, terraced vineyards, rustic villages of half-timbered houses, and the legendary Lorelei Rock. Disembark in Basel, Switzerland, and travel overland by road and rail to the pristine alpine resort of Zermatt, nestled beneath the craggy peak of the Matterhorn, and visit the beautiful lakeside town of Lucerne. During your stay in Switzerland, experience the soaring majesty of the Alps on three of Europe’s most spectacular rail journeys — the Gornergrat Bahn, the Glacier Express, and the Mt. 2. arrive in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Embark on the M.S. Amadeus Princess. Attend the welcome reception.
3. visit Cologne, Germany.
4. visit Koblenz and Rudesheim, Germany.
5. see Mannheim (Heidelberg).
6. tour Strasbourg, France.
7. visit Basel, Switzerland. Disembark to visit Gruyeres, Montreux, and Zermatt.
8. stay in Zermatt at the Schweizerhof Hotel. Take the Gornergrat Bahn train to the Matterhorn.
9. take the Glacier Express train to Andermatt. Enjoy the scenic transfer to Lucerne and stay at the Schweizerhof Hotel.
10. see Lucerne and Mt. Pilatus. Attend the farewell reception.
11. travel from Lucerne to Zurich and take a return flight home.
