The
legendary Rhine has been Europe’s main waterway for approximately
2,000 years. The Rhine Valley boasts a stunningly beautiful
countryside, medieval castles, and ancient chateaus that radiate
romance throughout the region’s vine-terraced hills and storybook
villages. Your home base during your stay, the Maritim Hotel
Königswinter, is situated at the foothills of the Siebengebirge
mountains. Legend dictates that the Siebengebirge, which translates
to seven mountains in German, inspired Grimm’s fairy tale, Snow
White and the Seven Dwarfs. Enjoy a cruise along the Rhine, and
experience the famous Loreley rock. Next, you’ll wander through the
picturesque town of Rüdesheim before stopping in Braubach, where
you’ll explore the medieval Marksburg castle, one of the principal
sites of the UNESCO World-heritage Site Rhine Gorge. After touring
the stylish city of Düsseldorf, you’ll continue on to Cologne,
famous for its magnificent 19th-century Kölner Dom, or cathedral.
The cathedral is the second-tallest Gothic structure in the world.
Then, enjoy a tram ride up the majestic Drachenfels Mountain and
visit the spectacular Gothic Schloss Drachenburg castle. In the Ahr
Valley, marvel at the renowned frescoes in the Apollinaris Church,
and explore the delightful medieval town of Ahrweiler. Then, admire
Villa Hammerschmidt in Bonn, the former capital of West Germany.
