This free event, planned and sponsored by the University Libraries and TUSD’s (Tucson Unified School District’s) Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, features interactive educational science activities presented by UA departments and student clubs and others for kids ages approximately 4-12. The day will begin with a kick-off music performance and brief welcome presentation at 9:30 a.m. Then doors will open for activity tables at 10 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m. Balloons, gift bags and prize drawings are also part of the fun! Her chart-topping 2008 CD, Coal, reveals her rich, compassionate alto at the height of her powers, and with a new-found passion for storytelling. Raised near Charleston, West Virginia, she grew up immersed in the Appalachian culture. She turned to bluegrass and her own family's history in the mines to give voice to the sometimes humorous, often perilous, culture of coal mining.
