To submit nominations for Honorary Bobcat or the A.L. Slonaker Award, please print and complete the appropriate nomination form below. Please send the completed form and supporting materials to Chrystean Page at 1111 North Cherry Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85721-0109 or via e-mail at page@al.arizona.edu.
Honorary Bobcat Criteria:
Nominees for Honorary Bobcat should be graduates or employees (graduates or not) of The University of Arizona. They should be someone who has given excellent service, has made a significant contribution, brought honor or recognition to our Alma Mater, and whom you believe will make the commitment to our motto of Eternal Vigilance.
Slonaker Award Criteria:
In 1970, Bobcats created the A.L. Slonaker award to honor one of the greatest Wildcats and one of the greatest Bobcats of them all. This award is presented each year to a Bobcat who has distinguished himself/herself by outstanding continuing service and loyalty to the University of Arizona and by achieving a career of distinction in the professional world. A.L. Slonaker, or Slony, was a student at Arizona from 1917 to 1921. An excellent scholar and an excellent campus leader. He was instrumental in starting Chain Gang, and he was a member of both Bobcats and Blue Key. His athletic career has never been equaled. He received 13 varsity letters. When he graduated he received the Freeman Medal. He joined the University of Arizona staff and his career of professional service with the University lasted 48 years. He was graduate manager of Student Body Activities, Alumni Secretary, Dean of Men, Associate Director of Scholarships and Financial Aid. Slony became to an extent few others have matched, Mr. University of Arizona, and so it was that in 1970, the Bobcats created the A.L. Slonaker award in his memory.
