Awards and Recognition

Outstanding Achievement Deserves Recognition

Since 1943, the University of Arizona Alumni Association has presented accomplished alumni and friends with distinguished awards. Our goal is to recognize alumni, friends of the institution, community leaders, faculty, staff, students, alumni chapters and clubs, and college alumni councils for outstanding achievement and/or service to the University of Arizona, the Alumni Association, their communities, and their professions.

Alumnus of the Year Award Ceremony at Homecoming 2010
Friday, October 22, 2010 – 4 to 6 p.m.
Student Union Grand Ballroom South

To commemorate the University of Arizona’s celebration of its 125th Anniversary, the UA Alumni Association is changing the format of its Homecoming Awards and Recognition Program to celebrate and highlight the highest achievements and contributions of alumni to their colleges. Each academic college (see listing below) is invited to nominate one individual (or a couple, if applicable) as the college’s Alumnus of the Year. Individuals or groups are still encouraged to be nominated for the other categories of Alumni Association awards to be presented at Homecoming 2010, but those awards would need to be bestowed at other Homecoming-related events. The Alumnus of the Year Ceremony will take place on Friday, October 22, 2010, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Student Union Grand Ballroom South.

The dean of the college will be asked to co-present the award at the ceremony along with UA President Robert Shelton; UA Alumni Association Director Christopher J. Vlahos; and the current UA Alumni Association Governing Board Chair.

Each academic college can nominate one individual (or a couple, if applicable) as the college’s Alumnus of the Year. The UA’s academic colleges are: (from oldest to newest): College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Engineering, James E. Rogers College of Law, College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, College of Science, College of Humanities, College of Education, College of Fine Arts, Eller College of Management, College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing, College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, College of Medicine, University of Arizona South, Honors College, Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, College of Optical Sciences. The Alumni Association will also present one award.

An Alumnus is defined as a former student at the University of Arizona who has either received a degree or has completed thirty (30) units of credit or more at the University of Arizona.

The deadline for submitting the nomination form is Monday, May 3, 2010. To receive a nomination packet, please contact Penny Davis, Awards Coordinator, the University of Arizona Alumni Association, 520,626-3835 or davis@al.arizona.edu.
